Artist Statement
Cami Claudel No. 09 — Vivante
Vivante was created as a meditation on the female body and the life moving through it.
The largest piece in the Cami Claudel Collection to date, it combines woven cane, hand-knotted fiber, natural wood, red cord, and crystal embellishment. The red linework moves across the bag's surface like circulation itself, inspired by the blood that runs through women’s veins and abstractly tracing the female form. Crystal drops introduce light and preciousness into the composition, marking the body not as something decorative, but as something living and worthy of care.
The name Vivante means “alive” or “living” in the feminine form.
That distinction matters.
This piece is about the female body as something active, resilient, vulnerable, changing, and full of life. Its scale is intentional. Women’s bodies are so often reduced, hidden, scrutinized, or discussed only in clinical terms. Vivante is allowed to take up space.
Created in honor of women’s health, especially with October approaching, the work is both celebration and reflection. It considers the body not simply as an aesthetic form, but as a living system of strength, fragility, endurance, and care.
As with every Cami Claudel piece, the hand's marks remain visible. The knots shift. The cane varies. The lines are not perfectly uniform. Those irregularities are not meant to disappear. They are part of the work, and part of what makes it human.
Vivante is a tribute to women, to the bodies that carry us, and to life itself.

- Handmade, one-of-one piece, individually designed and released as a single unit
- Hand-cut, shaped, and finished natural open-weave cane panels forming the bag's structure
- Hand-wrapped and hand-knotted cord detailing around the cane frame
- Double-strand pearl-style handles incorporated into the hand-laced construction
- Approximately 4–7 hours of handwork per bag
- Includes a small cotton muslin inner pouch to hold personal items
- Includes a Timeless Grace embroidered protective duster for storage and care
- Natural variations in the cane, knotting, shape, and finishing are intentional parts of each piece's character; the exact bag pictured is the one shipped
